Why We Built This Site
Kansas gives the public broad access to many public records, with the Kansas Open Records Act identified at K.S.A. 45-215 through 45-223 and practical inspection, fee, and exemption rules in provisions such as K.S.A. 45-218, K.S.A. 45-219, and K.S.A. 45-221. The hard part in Douglas County is figuring out which office holds the file. The Clerk of the District Court handles state District Court case records. Municipal courts handle many city ordinance and traffic matters. The Sheriff's Office manages jail and law-enforcement records. State portals handle criminal history, driver records, appellate context, and some vital-record certificate routes.
